Mike's (my Dad) Copy Service has been in business for 20+ years (I don't know how many exactly). All of us kids have worked there at one point or another. Then I realized that while everything was old hat to me, my children had no clue about what their Grandpa did for a living.
Time for a field trip!
Previously, we had the kids draw little pictures to put on scratch pads. Here Dad is helping Jarom design his scratch pad on the computer. Everyone got a turn.
Then Dad showed them how to program the copy machine to print the pads. This is the Docutech, the fanciest most expensive piece of machinery produced by Xerox.
They each chose a color.
Ooooh! Colors!
The pads are separated by chipboard...
...then they are cut by the big cutter.
Watch out little fingers!

Grandpa is an expert paper jogger.
Next paper protectors, and a brick are used to prepare the papers for the glue.
Ooooh, aaaahh!
And now for the binding machine.
This is the little rod that pokes holes in the paper.
Everyone lines up for a turn to press the foot pedal that operates the binding machine.
Line up to stick the coil in the book.
Auntie Lissa expertly trims the edges.
Voila!
